HOW MANY CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Response to CST varies from individual to individual and condition to condition. It will depend on how long you have had the symptom, and how your body would like to heal itself. Your response is uniquely your own and can't be compared to anyone else's, even though cases may appear to be similar to your own. I usually suggest to new clients that they try three, weekly, consecutive sessions.  By the third one, either your symptoms will have healed, in which case you won't need further sessions, or you are noticing a change and would like to continue. Or, quite simply, CST may not be for you. It may be that you would like to come once month for health maintenance, which I highly recommend. You and your body are the best judges. There are no set rules and regulations to abide by. I am here to support changes and your progress by empowering your own self-healing mechanisms.

WHAT IS CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY?

Craniosacral Therapy works by facilitating the body’s own natural healing power.

CST is a gentle hands-on approach that releases restrictions deep within the body, to relieve pain and dysfunction and to improve whole-body health and performance.

The techniques Harriet uses apply the Craniosacral methodology not only to the cranial and sacral areas, but also to the torso, neck, arms, legs or to wherever the body guides her to elicit a whole-body response. Her work also involves the cranial bones, meningeal membranes, skeletal, respiratory, vascular, nervous and digestive systems.

Craniosacral Therapy’s light touch techniques can release tension to allow the whole body to relax and self-correct. By freeing the central nervous system to perform at its best, CST may reduce pain and stress to enhance physical and emotional health and well-being.

The treatment is highly individual and can be different each time. People can respond with feelings of warmth, softening and pulsing in the areas that the therapist is working on, and generally feeling deeply relaxed.

People sometimes ask about the name Craniosacral Therapy and think it only refers to treatment to the head. In fact, Craniosacral Therapy works with the whole person and changes may occur in body, mind and spirit during and after sessions.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A SESSION?

You remain fully clothed and lie on the treatment table. Harriet will gently assess various areas of your body to locate an area of restriction by light, gentle touch with her hands.

Harriet uses delicate, precise and effective manual techniques to help release a problem area. Sometimes the places where we experience ‘symptoms’ are not where the actual problem’s root cause is located.

WHO CAN CST HELP?

People may come for Craniosacral Therapy because they have problems such as headaches, bad backs, acute pain, trauma, disease, injuries, dental troubles, or long-standing pain problems and chronic conditions, and issues associated with physical and emotional stress. Others come for ongoing support in their busy lives and for help to meet life’s challenges.

As treatment is so gentle and non-invasive, Craniosacral Therapy is suitable for everyone from newborns to the elderly. Mothers and babies often come for problems associated with difficult or traumatic births. Letting go of tension and fear held in the body enables both to settle into calmness.

HOW DOES CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY WORK?

Craniosacral Therapy influences your central nervous system, which consists of your bones, soft tissue and the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and nurtures your brain and spinal cord. This cerebrospinal fluid has a powerful influence over the nervous, endocrine and immune system and a total body effect. By calming the central nervous system, CST can help release pain and dysfunction from anywhere in the body.

IS THERE ANY CONDITION FOR WHICH CST SHOULDN'T BE USED?

There are certain situations where application of CST would not be recommended. These include conditions where a variation and/or slight increase in intracranial pressure would cause instability. Acute aneurysm, cerebral haemorrhage or other pre-existing severe bleeding disorders are examples of conditions that could be affected by small intracranial pressure changes.
